In our guests' words...

"We recently spent 5 nights at Haddon House Farm B&B and I cannot say enough good things about the experience.  To begin, the location is convenient for visiting many historic sights in the area (Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall among them) and is only minutes from the High Street in the lovely village of Bakewell.  Many great places to eat and shop there.  Lots of things to see and do within a short drive from Haddon House Farm.  Marilyn & Bill are wonderful hosts and go out of their way to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.  Our room (the Monet Room) was quite nicely furnished with a particularly comfortable bed.  Breakfasts were wonderful and featured a full English breakfast.  Delicious!  This is a working farm and there are lovely walking paths around the property as well as incredibly scenic walking paths and trails nearby.  Marilyn & Bill know the area well and are eager to make suggestions regarding things to see and do.  The Peak District is one of the most beautiful corners of England and I would highly recommend Haddon House Farm B&B as a place to stay when you visit."  Keith & John, North Carolina, USA, 16th September, 2012

"This was our second trip to Haddon House Farm and it certainly will not be our last.  Staying with Marilyn & Bill is a treat as you really do feel made welcome to share their home.  It feels like a home away from home and nothing ever seems too much trouble.  Breakfast is a real treat and kept us going until well into the afternoon.  Fresh fruit, cereals, juices, full English cooked breakfast, toast, conserves, tea and coffee all beautifully presented.  The rooms are extremely comfortable and spacious with every consideration given to your needs.  This really is a lovely retreat with so many inspiring places to visit nearby which Marilyn & Bill will happily talk to you about should you have any queries.  You get a very warm welcome in a private home and we were lucky to meet some lovely people during our stay which was an added bonus."  Helen, August 31, 2012

Our thanks to all our guests, whether they've written in our visitor's book or not -- your company and conversation have been so helpful to us over the years.  How lovely it is for us to read such beautiful words (and poetry!) as our guests write ... we're providing here what we like to find when we go away - a friendly face who is interested in us as people, not just the money we bring, and a quality bed with beautiful linen.

It seems the whole world comes to our kitchen table and tells us about their life back home.  Farming can be an isolated existence, but our guests' conversation lets us see the other side of the fence.  The income from the B&B business is very important, helping to plug the holes in the farm cash flow.  Farmers really appreciate your business!

Please stay on a farm whenever possible.  You'll be helping food producers and yourself - you'll find value for money and keep your holiday spend in the area where you stayed, thus helping a local economy to survive until the next time you want to visit.

We constantly reinvest in our business.  We believe passionately in supporting local small businesses - doing our part to help sustain local employment.  As much as is possible, we source food ingredients from Peak farmers, and we always buy food produced in Britain.  Taste and quality go hand in hand with freshness.  We want you to savour the difference, and enjoy your time away to the fullest.

You can entrust your precious time away to us with confidence.  Your holiday experience is very important to us.  Bill and I hope you'll book to come stay with us, and join those who regard our home as their special place to visit a couple of times a year.

Here's a poem written by one of our guests - what a surprise!  I think they enjoyed their stay:

Haddon House Farm

Time away from home  - with all it’s worries.

Somewhere where no one really hurries.

A peaceful setting without need of car,

The local shops close and not too far.

Somewhere to be pampered, and slightly spoiled.

We deserve it, for how hard we’ve toiled.

A walk in the country, would also be nice,

To test our stamina and earn the evening rice.

We found it in Derbyshire’s countryside,

A place called Bakewell - or just outside.

Haddon House Farm run by Marilyn and Bill -

A place that just exudes goodwill.

Homely comfort, with a well cooked meal,

Fills the body and gives good zeal.

A hearty walk over the dales and hills -

More beneficial than a hundred pills!

A bubbling hot tub and a glass of wine -

Gives a feeling of luxury – sublime.

‘Anything you need?’ asks the kindly host.

‘Your pleasant stay, pleases us most.’

Breakfast is cooked before your eyes -

With blueberry muffins -  a nice surprise!

Take them with you on your walk today,

To give you stamina and keep hunger at bay.

Back to Haddon House Farm, we’ll happily go.

Shouting it’s praise to all I know!

Our grateful thanks for a wonderful stay -

Comfy beds when we ‘hit the hay’!

Our thanks to Marilyn and to Bill

Staying there was a wonderful thrill.

Barry Edmonds-2009.

Wow!  Thanks a bunch, Barry!

How kind was that, plus all the other really warm and friendly feedback we've had (only some of which is reiterated above - I have albums of lovely thank you cards collected over the 22 years I've been welcoming visitors to our farmhouse.)  We know you work hard and your time away is precious.   Come give us a try.  We are very open to feedback, let us know what you think at any point.
