The above rates are subject to change.

The cost for children depends how appealing you can make them sound ... depending on their age, generally the cost is £15 for the first child and £10 for the second child.  The Master Room and the Spring Meadow are rooms which can accommodate families.  The Monet and the Shakespeare are for couples only.  Sometimes parents will have one of these rooms, and their teenage children will have the Spring Meadow Room; then the cost is more in line with those rates quoted in bold type.  Give us a ring and we can talk about your requirements.

Single occupancy of our double rooms (all our rooms are large doubles) is by negotiation, by which I mean the rate is not far off that shown above.  Apologies in advance to those who are travelling on their own at a busy time; I wish I had a single room which would mean there would be no single supplement, but all of our rooms are very large and designed for at least double occupancy.

Business Customers:

We can offer the traveller on business all the services he or she needs:  WiFi throughout, Sky TV, secure off road parking, breakfast at a time to suit - no time is too early.  For regular business travellers, we can tailor our services to suit.

Weekend Breaks

Weekends are always popular throughout the year.  We ask our guests to stay for two nights at weekends, though I can sometimes accommodate a one night booking - please double-check with me if you need one night only rather than just assuming it will not be possible.  (Telephone Marilyn - 01629-814024 - I'm quite friendly - give me a call.

On Bank Holiday weekends we generally ask our guests to stay for three nights.  Occasionally a one or two night booking is possible on a Bank Holiday because when other bookings end or begin.  Whenever you've got in mind to stay, please give me a call and ask, as above.  Any message left on my answerphone goes through to my mobile and I'll call you right back.

Availability is always easier Sunday thru Thursday nights. The Peak District is a popular destination - and with a population of about 30 million people within an hour's drive of this fabulous countryside destination, you'll understand that reasonably priced quality acccommodation is in demand.

You can make a booking by phone or by e mail - I aim to be very prompt at replying to e mails. - marilynnichols1@me.com  or 01629-814024

Please ask if you'd like me to recommend another good B&B nearby if we're already fully booked.

Hot Tub

There's a wonderful hot tub in a secluded corner pavilion of the garden which our guests are welcome to use.  There's a charge of £25 per hour session to help with the energy costs which can be added to your room account.  We have sumptuous robes and towels to lend.  We ask that our guests bring suitable footwear to wear between their bedroom and the hot tub so to preserve hygiene.  If you've never experienced the massage and relaxation of a hot spa, this is your opportunity.  Stiff muscles are eased, pain fades, and it's a great place to enjoy one another's company while you enjoy the view of our beautiful garden.  There's a roof over your head and the hot tub pavilion looks out on a deck and the garden.  It doesn't matter what the weather's doing, it's steaming inside!     We reserve the hot tub for your use alone for your hour's session.  There's a docking station for your iPod so you enjoy your music and be completely relaxed.

Gift Vouchers/Celebrations:

It's a thoughtful idea to give your family or friends the perfect gift of time away in a beautiful area at a great place to stay.  You can trust us to look after your special people.  We can create a beautiful gift voucher and post it promptly, listening to how you'd like to arrange the gift.  Frequently a gift voucher doesn't specify a particular date to stay - leaving your friends or family to make a booking for a time that suits them.  We have hosted many newlyweds on honeymoon, those celebrating anniversaries and other personal milestones.  We love being part of celebrations and can get quite carried away.

A hot air balloon flight is a fabulous way to remember your special event.  Dragon Balloons launch from our farm - and finish off with a glass of champagne at the end of your flight.  It's a fabulous way of viewing the Peak District and doing something you can talk about for years!  Have a look at their web site:  www.dragonballoon.co.uk  Virgin Balloons also fly from Bakewell, though the length of their flights aren't as long as that offered by the folks at Dragon - who have excellent balloon pilots.  It's thrilling, I adore it, I'd do it every day of the week.

Deposits:

Deposits are appreciated, in the form of a cheque.  There's a map on the final page of the web site, under "Contact Us".  Take our phone number with you for the journey, and you can give us a call if delayed or if you need some help in the last stage of finding us. 01629-814024

Cancellations:

"The best laid plans of mice and men often go astray".  Sometimes events conspire to wreck your plans.  You are bound to be disappointed. It is very unfortunate and the last thing you'd want to happen.  If you need to cancel your booking, we will try to relet the bedroom which we have kept reserved for you.  I can sometimes do this without too much trouble if given enough opportunity.

Please, if you have to cancel, give me as much warning as is possible, and I'll probably be able to relet the room.   If there is a reasonable length of time in between the time of cancelling and your booking (meaning three or four weeks), then there is no fee for cancelling except a small documentation fee - and I'll return the remainder of your deposit cheerfully.

If you need to cancel at short notice (which is anything from fourteen days or less), I'll make every effort to relet the bedroom for those nights you've booked.  Assuming I can relet the room for the whole period of your booking then I am happy to return your deposit (with only a small deduction).   If the room is relet for only a portion of the time booked, and if there is any balance left after your deposit is taken into account, then you remain liable for this amount.  If I can't relet the room at all, then I would expect the remainder to be paid.  This is the nature of the contract between us and is the function of holiday insurance.

Very occasionally, people fail to show for a reservation they've made and neglect to telephone and cancel, inexplicably.  Guests remain liable for the value of the booking and this principle is supported in legislation.

We are always sympathetic to our guests' needs and last minute problems, and we would encourage our guests to let us know at any point if there is a problem looming.

Check In and Check Out:

We like to be flexible to suit the individual needs of our guests but we also need time to prepare a room after the previous night's guests.  Please discuss your requirements when booking (or at any point thereafter).  We can generally accommodate our guests' particular needs.  Please settle your room account before your last morning (as I am often busy in the morning with breakfast preparations for other guests).

After breakfast on your last morning please give me an indication of your plans (for checking out).  Your custom is very much appreciated - and the good wishes and goodbyes will be accompanied by sincere wishes that you'll come again.  You'll understand the practicalities of running an accommodation business mean there's a good deal of housekeeping to be done before my next guests arrive which takes time.  Thanks in advance for your consideration.

Damage

Our rooms are furnished with very beautiful carpets and furniture for our guests' benefit .  If an accident occurs and something is broken we can very often get things put right without too much fuss or expense.  On occasion, a mishap will have occurred and the guest will check out and not tell us anything is amiss.  I'd prefer that we are given the opportunity to deal with accidents and that people are "up front" about damage.  If there is a significant cost to repair damage or something needs replacing, it is the financial responsibility of the guest.   It is the guests' responsibility to leave the room as they found it on checking in.  Household contents' insurance usually covers accidental damage to hotel rooms (as it is to all intents and purposes your "home" for the night.)  I hope we don't have to revisit this paragraph!

Children:

We ask that our guests' children be at least 5 years of age and to have heard the word "no" in the last 12 months.  Apologies in advance to those with younger or more free-range children; I know you need a break.  Please supervise your children at all times during your stay with us.  Unsupervised children are likely to be sold into slavery (cheaply).

Favours, Services and Problem Solving:

We sometimes are able to help our guests in all kinds of unpredictable ways (changing flat tyres, dealing with flat car batteries, providing wrapping paper for wedding gifts, running folks to weddings in distant villages, even being the (last minute) witnesses at the Bakewell Registry Office wedding of two of our guests.

This personal, bespoke and friendly service is where we can leave impersonal hotels behind in the Service Stakes. We're pleased to help solve an unforeseen crisis, or to provide that which is no big deal to us, but which will make a huge difference to our guests who may be on the other side of the world from their usual support system.  If we can do anything to help at any point of your stay, please rely on us - we quite like having the opportunity to be your cavalry, swooping in to save the day!

Use of the Computer:

We have WiFi for our guests' convenience, and visitors find it useful to be able to check their e mail, etc on their laptops.    By all means, we can "Google" something, or to quickly check in via e mail with home - but please don't expect to spend a lengthy time on my computer.   The library in Bakewell has several computers, and it is quite easy to drop in there and get on-line.

A Wrong Note?

Unfortunately and only occasionally, things strike dischord.  Perhaps we didn't communicate well enough.  Sometimes we make mistakes or have simply forgotten to do something.  (Anyone who doesn't make mistakes doesn't make anything).  Let us know during your stay if something is not right - and if it can be put  right, we will ensure it is expedited.  We aim to please.

I'm providing for my guests what I like to find when I go away -- quiet, comfort, good quality everything, warmth, tasty food promptly served ... personable, friendly hosts.   With the best will in the world things can go awry between two people  Tell me how to put things right and we'll try to find a good outcome for you.

In twenty years of welcoming folks to our farmhouse, there have rarely been any serious complaints.  I am as disappointed and twice as upset as you if things aren't right.  We aim to far exceed what you were hoping to find in our B&B.  It is fair to say that we get better as each year passes - we reinvest in our facilities constantly, and after twenty years of listening to our guests, we hope we've anticipated what you want and expect.  We offer our guests outstanding quality and a value for money which is much sought after but rarely found.  We love to hear what you think - and if you stay with us, please let us know.

We think we've got a great place to stay -- an unusual place, where the guest rooms are beautifully appointed with sumptuous quality beds and towels, the food is wonderful, tasty, fresh, piping hot or deliciously cold.  We promise to do our very best on each and every occasion that you entrust your precious days away in our hands.

And To Finish ...

We know you deserve a break.  We offer a sincere welcome and hope our guests will feel like invited friends.  We encourage the atmosphere of the house to be a happy holiday mood.  Nonetheless, everyone needs to know when they can arrive, what facilities are here, when to pay, etc.  Our b&b is a diversification to our farm business which allows us to stay farming (and filling supermarket shelves near you!) - but also gives us friendly interaction and a glimpse into the lives of all sorts of different people from around the world.  Our guests' comments are always welcome.  If you've enjoyed our website, I'd love to hear from you.  Hopefully we will have the pleasure of seeing you soon,
