Romance, great dining and sightseeing, a great place to stay with a secluded hot tub ...
Welcome to the countryside in early summer. A beautiful hillside of layered fresh green fills the view. Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall wait for you. Bakewell has welcoming pubs, beautiful gardens and delicious menus to tempt. We're Bill & Marilyn Nichols. Our farmhouse is a great place to stay in Bakewell, the heart of the Peak District National Park on the ancient Haddon Hall estate. The Victorian building of mellow stone was built for a wealthy family on the site of the ancient lost manor of Burton. Our beautiful farm nestles in a magical valley where romance and dynasties have made history. The sparkling River Wye meanders through our meadows. You'll probably be familiar already with the fabulous Peak District, having seen it used as the backdrop in films such as "Pride & Prejudice", Keira Knightley in "The Duchess", Natalie Portman & Scarlet Johansson in "The Other Boleyn Girl", Cate Blanchett and Joseph Fiennes in "Elizabeth". Anthony Hopkins and Emily Blunt have been filming the remake of "The Wolf Man" at Chatsworth House (to be released this autumn). The Peak District is a great place to enjoy your precious time away.

Why This is a Slice of Heaven:
Our award-winning mixed farm is set in an enchanted valley in the heart of the national park. Our animals graze peacefully next to a clear flowing river. We are working with the RSPB, the National Park and DEFRA to encourage birdlife within an environmental scheme. The farm has an important lapwing population; additionally you'll see buzzards, hawks, owls. Swallows return from Africa every April to nest in our farm buildings. The riverside meadow habitat encourages otters and small mammals. You can take a picnic over to the river, find a comfy perch on a tree stump and watch the dance of sunbeams on sparkling water. Even in inclement weather (dressed in appropriate gear and booted suitably), a riverside walk calms and revives.
