Romance, history, great sightseeing, a great place to stay ...
We're glad you found us. We're Bill & Marilyn Nichols. Our farmhouse is a great place to stay in Bakewell, the heart of the Peak District National Park on the ancient Haddon Hall estate. Built in 1852, the listed Victorian building sculpted with carved stone probably stands on the site of the ancient lost manor of Burton. Our beautiful farm nestles in a magical valley where romance and dynasties have made history.
Film makers use Haddon Hall's medieval atmosphere and beautiful wooded estate to re-create the backdrop for historical dramas ... Natalie Portman & Scarlet Johansson in "The Other Boleyn Girl", Keira Knightley in "Pride & Prejudice" and "The Duchess", Cate Blanchett and Joseph Fiennes in "Elizabeth". Anthony Hopkins and Emily Blunt are filming the remake of "The Wolf Man" at Chatsworth House this spring.

Continuing Upgrades
This year we set ourselves an ambitious new scheme of redecoration and improvement for our guests' benefit. A fabulous 6 person top-of-the-line hot tub has been installed in a secluded corner of the garden. A canopy of "stars" change hue as energetic jets soothe your aches to send you back home with a great feeling of well-being. The Spring Meadow Room has an entirely new look from ceiling to floor designed by a talented local designer. The Master Room, newly redecorated throughout now has a breathtaking "And So To Bed" Georgian 4 poster bed, super-king in size and extravagantly dressed with French linen and silk pillows. The dining room has a beautiful new look - Nina Campbell wallpaper from her ("Birdcage Walk" collection), new carpet and new furniture from the best local shops. An updated and exciting picture gallery will shortly be posted. There's never been a better time to visit the Peak District and to stay at one of the finest B&Bs in the area. Show me a better place to stay (at this price) and I'll gladly consume my Barbour cap!
Why This is a Slice of Heaven:
Our award-winning mixed farm is set in an enchanted valley in the heart of the national park. Our animals graze peacefully next to a clear flowing river and spring lambs cavort amongst their mothers. We are working with the RSPB, the National Park and DEFRA to encourage birdlife within a "green" environmental scheme. The farm has an important lapwing population; additionally you'll see buzzards, hawks, owls. Swallows return from Africa every April to nest in our farm buildings. The riverside meadow habitat encourages otters and small mammals. You can take a picnic over to the river, find a comfy perch on a tree stump and watch the dance of sunbeams on sparkling water.
Why You'll Want to Return to this Boutique B&B:
Carving out a new niche, visit this "boutique B&B" - individual and sumptuously designed down to the last detail like a boutique hotel ... yet more personal and intimate than a hotel and definitely not like the hackneyed image of a b&b. We boast fabulous decadent bedrooms which are designed to be your perfect spot away from a hectic life. The emphasis on excellence means you'll be pleasantly surprised and ready to put us in your "favourites". Our guests' conversation 'round the breakfast-table often stretches on into the morning, as carafes of coffee and my famous morning-baked blueberry muffins disappear. It's a great place to linger, look at the view and feel the workaday strains leave you! Give Marilyn a call now on 01629-814024 or e mail m@great-place.co.uk
